Man attacked in street by men known to him

Man attacked with sticks and pointed at with a firearm by two men known to him in Bekkersdal.

Two men aged 23 and 25 were arrested for attacking and pointing a firearm at a victim known to them.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson said the victim allegedly walked in a street in Silver City very early one Saturday morning in December when he was accosted by two men he knew.

“One of the men accused the him of previously causing an attack on him. They did not give him a chance to explain and started attacking the victim with sticks. One of his attackers took out a firearm and hit him on the head.

“The victim managed to get himself out of the situation and ran away. He then reported the matter to the police and a day later, detective Constable John Maoba traced and arrested the two suspects at their home.

“The firearm was not recovered but an investigation is ongoing. They will face charges of pointing a firearm and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.”

Colonel Tinus Swart, the Bekkersdal Police station commander commended the member for his swift response to all new cases.

“This is the attitude we expect from each and every member on call,” he said.
