FJL Wells Primary Mine School learners start 2019

Tears and smiles among Grade 1 newbies

There were smiles at the FJL Wells Primary Mine School, but there were also tears among terrified Grade 1 newbies on their first day.

There was a mixture of excitement and reluctance among the learners; some cried hard for their parents, while others were kicking and screaming. Teachers had to step in, take on parental roles and try to comfort the sobbing children. Meanwhile others were beaming with joy and were ready to take on new lessons while making new friends.

Deputy Principal of the school, Sello Mphatswe said learners have settled in with the new teachers and the school trusts that this academic year will run smoothly.

“Most of the learners are happy to be here, and our teachers are also prepared for the lessons they will teach during the year,” Mphatswe added.
