Thief enters yard, steals all the chickens

Man arrested on his plot in Bekkersdal while allegedly slaughtering stolen chickens.

A 44-year-old man entered a premises in Bekkersdal and stole all the chickens in the yard.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson said the incident occurred in December when a 62-year-old woman was awoken by barking dogs.

“The victim alleged that upon checking on her chickens, she was shocked to find them all gone,” Lefakane said.

The police followed tracks which led them to a nearby plot, where they found a man in the process of slaughtering the chickens. He was arrested and he already appeared in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court.

Colonel Tinus Swart, Bekkersdal Police station commander, commended the family for refraining from taking the law into their own hands.

“Incidents like these should always be reported to the police,” Swart added.
