Man jailed for 22 years for 2018 kidnapping, murder

Klipfontein man sentenced for his role in kidnapping and murdering Boiki Mathebula in Randfontein early last year.

Vincent Bongani Jamasi, 35, was sentenced to an effective 22 years behind bars for the kidnapping and murder of Boiki Mathebula, 36, in February last year.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson said the sentence was passed in the Johannesburg High Court in December.

On Friday, 2 February 2018, police were called to a scene after a passer-by had spotted a body in an open veld in Simunye.

“Preliminary and intensive investigations were conducted by detective Sergeant Sevha Shiviti and detective Constable Thembikosi Mapoloba, which later revealed the deceased was killed elsewhere and dumped in Simunye in Bekkersdal.

“The two investigators collected evidence that enabled them to identify the deceased and later his family. The family worked with the police and were able to identify the perpetrators. The two officers worked around the clock until they recovered the vehicle used to transport the deceased.

“Three suspects were arrested – all from Klipfontein. They made a brief appearance in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court but two of them were released on bail. The case was later transferred to the Johannesburg High Court.”
