Avante welcomes their new Grade 1s to big school

It was a new world for many but it didn't take long for the new group of Grade ones at Avante Primary School to settle in on their first day of school.

The 2019 Grade 1 learners of Avante Primary School were excited to sit in their new classrooms and listen to their teachers’ instructions for the first time on Wednesday, 9 January.

By 8am, scores of parents have walked into the school’s premises with their little ones. Most of the newbie learners looked proud in their school uniforms, but for many it was a confusing new world.

Others appeared to be terrified of their new classrooms and teachers, but it did not take long for them to feel at home.

Just an hour into settling down, learners interacted as if they had known each other for years, while their teachers wanted to get them focused.

Reginah Marule, deputy principal of the school said they are positive about the new academic year. The staff are looking forward to start teaching.

“The first day of this academic year ran smoothly, especially the system we employed for the registration. We were well prepared. We promised the community that we will deliver in terms of the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) requirements, but we are also appealing to the parents to give us their support,” Reginah added.
