Officers promoted for better police-community relationship

Promotions at the Randfontein Police will not only help fight crime in town but spark a better relationship with the community.

Twelve Randfontein Police officers have been promoted to the rank of captain. Three of them were promoted as sector managers with effect from 2 January.

Brigadier Mashole Jacob Manamela, Randfontein Police station commander said these promotions will not only help fight crime in Randfontein but will be the start of a better relationship with the community.

Front: Captain Dithebele Lazarus Malema, Captain Caroline Coombe, Captain William Padi, Captain Ntlabidi David Maponya, Brigadier Mashole Jacob Manamela and Colonel Dorette Greyling. Back: Captain Chris de Beer, Colonel Rand Makgatho, Captain Ben Beyleveld, Captain Cyril Gumede, Captain Frans van der Merwe, Captain Nicky Theunissen and Captain Fikile Mosakga.

“When I first took this office, I said we will do everything in our power to make sure that we work closer with the community. The only way to do so is through sector managers.

“They need to be closer to the community to hear what their complaints and challenges are. Most importantly, they must represent the Police in the community,” Manamela said.

He said some of the officers have been serving at the Randfontein Police station while others are from other stations. They will help to determine the best ways of resolving the challenges community members face.

“Almost all the sectors are now covered, except Sectors 4 and 5, but one of our officers will be responsible for them in the interim,” Manamela said.

“As the station commander I appeal to the community for their full cooperation. They must work with our officers, the sector managers, who will be closer to them so that we can make sure that Randfontein is a crime-free zone,” Manamela said.
