Zithandesana embarks on an awareness campaign

The campaign also addressed abuse against men

Zithande Community Empowerment Project held an awareness campaign to educate the community about various social issues such as abuse, human trafficking, rape, and violence against women and children on Thursday, 13 December, at the Manzi Chapel in Mohlakeng.

“The purpose of the campaign was to also raise spiritual awareness and highlight the community’s outcry against these issues,” said Lucille Manzi, founder of the project.

Lucille went on to say the community was called upon to come and learn about different forms of abuse.

“As an organisation, we stand against such violence, and we also aimed at debunking all the stereotypes that encourage women and child abuse and even men abuse. We believe that 16 Days of Activism is not enough and should be something we do daily,” Lucille said.

Lucille thanked the various stakeholders who made the campaign possible, among them Mandla Hamnca of Proud Fathers, Glory Matipile of Baagi Ba South Africa, Andries from Soul City, Women Against Women and Child Abuse (Wawa) Toekomsrus and the community at large.

“We say ‘this far and no further’.

We appreciate all the community members who opened up to us during the meeting and reached out for help,” Lucille added.
