Mohlakeng elderly spoiled for Christmas

The elderly of Mohlakeng again got a festive surprise when the annual Gogo Christmas Party was held.

The elderly of Mohlakeng were spoiled rotten with entertainment and food during the annual Gogo Christmas party held at the Patrick Ace Ntsoelengoe Stadium in Mohlakeng.

The initiative was once again organised by businesswoman and Mohlakeng-born Mapheto Sadiki from Sadmon Projects and Consulting.

Gospel artist Pfundo Mudau from the West Rand Gospel Choir and Emmanuel House of Faith entertains the elderly at the Gogo Christmas Party with a Venda cultural dance.

Councillor Anah Gela, Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) MMC for Social Development praised the organisers for the event, especially during a year that celebrated the anniversaries of struggle stalwarts Albertina Sisuslu and Nelson Mandela.

“As the RWCLM we want to be part of this drive and there is a need to expand it to as far as Bekkersdal, Simunye and other areas within the Rand West,” Anah said.

For a number of years, Maphetoe said, the event was held at the house where she used to live on Matsitse Street in Mohlakeng but they have worked with various NGOs and luncheon clubs to host the event for the elderly in the township at the stadium.

Lunch was served to the elderly and all were given warm mini blankets to take home. There was also entertainment by gospel artist Pfundo Mudau, the St Ezekiel Brass Band, gumboot dancing by young kids as well as a Setswana traditional dance.
