North West man caught with drugs in R’fontein

A man from Klerksdorp was caught with a parcel containing a white substance believed to be drugs during a stop-and-search operation during the festive season.

Bekkersdal Police arrested a 33-year-old man from Klerksdorp on the N12 for being in possession of a substance believed to be drugs.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson confirmed that the man was arrested following a routine stop-and-search operation on the N12 at about noon on Friday, 21 December.

“It is alleged Constables Jeffrey Manganye and Mzwandile Masuku were patrolling around the N12 when they spotted a man being dropped off by a private vehicle. They approached the person and requested to search him. In his possession they found a parcel wrapped with tape.

“They allegedly requested permission to open it and found a white substance suspected to be drugs. The suspect was arrested immediately and he was charged with possession thereof,” Lefakane said.

Colonel Tinus Swart, the Bekkersdal Police station commander applauded both officers for the arrest and for being vigilant.

“Drugs are destroying our nation on a daily basis. Let us join hands in the fight against drugs and substance abuse,” Swart said.

It is believed the man already appeared in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court.
