Teen raped on New Year’s Day

Man aged 30 arrested for the rape of a minor in Simunye on New Year's Day.

Bekkersdal Police arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly raping a 17-year-old in Simunye on New Year’s Day.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson said the incident happened when the victim was sent to a tuckshop in the area.

“The suspect dragged her to his place where she was raped. She returned home crying and told her parents what had happened to her.

“The parents along with the community traced and arrested the suspect, and took him to the police,”Lefakane said.

The suspect is due to appear in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court soon.
