Man who targets child is burnt to death

Man burnt to death in Brandvlei after raping a young girl and attacking her and her brother with a panga on Christmas Eve.

A man was burnt to death by some angry community members after he allegedly raped a young girl and attacked her bother with a panga on Christmas Eve.

Constable Carmen Hendricks, Randfontein Police spokesperson confirmed the incident that had happened at about 4am in the victims’ shack in an informal settlement at the corner of the N14 and R41 in Brandvlei.

“An on-duty police officer received a complaint of mob justice and a community member pointed out a burnt body to him at the scene. It was alleged that the unknown man had used forced to gain entry to the shack where the victims were sleeping. He raped a 14-year-old girl and hacked her with a panga.

“Her four-year-old brother was woken by her screams for help and went to assist his sister. He tried to pull the suspect from her but was also hacked with the panga.

“Community members got word of what had happened and found the suspect inside the shack. They set him alight and burned him to death.”

Both victims were taken to hospital for medical care and are in critical condition.

Brigadier Mashole Jacob Manamela, the Randfontein Police station commander advised the community not to take the law into their own hands, and to contact the police if they apprehend a suspect.
