Bekkersdal Police and stakeholders marked 16 Days of Activism and celebrated International Day of Persons Lliving with Disabilities at the Korekile Home for Cerebral Palsied Children in Simunye on Thursday, 6 December.

“The purpose was to promote their rights and well-being, at the same time appreciating them and caring for them,” said Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson.

Lefakane added that the day started with cleaning, then ex-offenders from the Krugersdorp Correctional Service applying a coat of paint, as well as doing some laundry.

“The facility manager, Mme Masechaba Modimoeng was very touched by the gesture and appreciated the work that the members did.

“She said it’s not every day the kids see so many faces. She also expressed her wish for this programme to be continued throughout the year so that the kids are not left out,” Lefakane said.

Colonel Tinus Swart, Bekkersdal Police station commander congratulated those who took part in the programme and wished everyone a safe and happy festive season.

“Let us continue shining,” Swart said.
