Elderly treated to unique Christmas party

Guests and residents at Vriendskaptuiste were treated to some great performances during a unique praise and worship service on Monday, 3 December.

Vriendskaptuiste Old Age Home ended the year on a faith-filled note with a special praise and worship service on Monday, 3 December.

It was also the perfect opportunity for the last edition of their Kuier, klets en ‘n bietjie kuns programme, which will continue from January 2019.

According to Serah Oberholder, a coordinator of the programme, guests and residents were treated to some great performances while the story of Jesus Christ was told. Songs and hymns were all part of it.

She added that the story of the birth of Jesus was told in a different way, as the ordinary way has been commercialised.

“What we had was simply an end of the year celebration of Jesus Christ. We did not have the traditional Christmas tree and Santa Claus, simply because we’re tired of them,” Serah said.

She said all the performances that were showcased by the dancers, told and symbolised the story of how Jesus Christ was born.

“During the show, the dancers did prophetic dance, in which they depicted angels. For instance, they covered their faces because the Bible says none of us can see the face of God,” Serah said.

She said residents of Safe Haven and those from the Connie Mulder Centre who were part of the performance put on a magnificent performance for the audience.

“I think everyone had fun, and understood exactly what it meant to us to put on the service.”
