Loadshedding: When will you (R’fontein) be left in the dark?

The Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) has given an update regarding the load-shedding situation in Randfontein.

Residents of the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) are encouraged to prepare for possible power outages and to use electricity sparingly.

The Herald received the following load shedding schedule from the municipality; however, Caroline Setsiba, a RWCLM representative, said it is just a guideline to what residents can expect. It is possible that power will not be switched off as scheduled, so residents should treat all power points as live until confirmed otherwise.

How to read the loadshedding schedule: the numbers 1-30 at the top represent the day of the month and the numbers on the left are the time slots. Stage 2 load shedding is currently being implemented which means that the time slots marked in purple will be applicable.

“Eskom sent out a message on Tuesday that they are working on fixing various sub-stations. The load shedding schedule could change at any moment as a result. We will keep the community updated,” she said.

Eskom give reasons for load shedding

Khulu Phasiwe, an Eskom spokesperson, confirmed that the whole of South Africa will experience rotational loadshedding today, 5 December.

“The System Operator has just confirmed the implementation of Stage 2 loadshedding from 9.00am until 10pm today,” he said.

Direct Eskom customers can access the loadshedding schedule on the Eskom website (https://loadshedding.eskom.co.za) or they can call the customer contact centre at 086 003 7566.

The national loadshedding is a result of a shortage of capacity due to a number of generating units still being out of service due to breakdowns

Stage 2 calls for a load of 2000MW to be rotationally shed nationally. Load shedding is conducted rotationally as a measure of last resort to protect the power system from a total collapse or blackout.
