Get to know a ‘Teiner’ #90 Sharina van Wyk

The 90th person in the Herald’s Get to know a Randfonteiner project introduces herself.

Meet our ‘Teiner’ of the week, Sharina van Wyk, who was originally born in Marydale, a small town in the Northern Cape, but officially became a resident of Randfontein in 2009.

The 29-year-old said she is proud of the progress she has made since coming to Randfontein, especially given all the trials and tribulations that she has faced as a young girl without parents.

“Despite facing all the difficulties when I was a little girl, I overcame them and made sure that I worked very hard to become the person I am today,” Sharina said.

She said the hardships she has experienced have made her want to advise the youth to never fall prey to social ills such as drugs and prostitution, while giving up on their dreams.

Sharina said she would like to be a motivational speaker, and dedicate her life to empowering people who are on the brink of giving up.

“I think that would be the best way of empowering people, because no one else is going to fight for your dreams unless you get going and become the best you can be,” Sharina added.
