DA visits Mohlakeng’s entrepreneurial Hub

The Mohlakeng Enterprise Hub is meant to benefit 32 local business, but only two are operating.

On Monday, 19 November, several representatives of the DA visited the Mohlakeng Enterprise Hub, following allegations that the facility is not utilised for its proper purpose.

Solly Msimanga, who spearheaded the unannounced visit, said the Hub was meant to benefit 32 two local business, but only two are operating.

Solly Msimanga said the people of Mohlakeng should be allowed to use resources in the entrepreneurial hub for economic development.

Among the complaints from the community are the fact that the facility is not well advertised and members cannot access the facility easily.

“This visit is part of our listening tour, in which we are moving all across Gauteng to engage with communities, but as we do so, we are seeing government facilities not being utilised optimally to the benefit of the people.

“The reason we chose to come here was that this is a centre that is supposed to be accessible to young people trying to find opportunities and ensure that they are able to get their ideas registered and off the ground.”

Msimanga said it is shocking to see young people being turned away from the facility.

“This is tax-payers’ money that is supposed to ensure that people are able use all the resources,” Msimanga said. He condemned the situation, saying that it is unacceptable.

“This place was designed to assist in-house small and medium-sized entities, but they are not even operating at half their capacity yet, which tells you that there is a need to overhaul the system, so that people can be informed of better ways they can use this facility,” Solly added.
