#MunicipalMonday: Kocksoord continues to deteriorate

VIDEO: In this week’s #Municipal Monday, the Herald met with Henry Scheepers who said for the past 24 years his town has been increasingly ignored and abandoned.

Henry Scheepers, a resident of Kocksoord, said that for the past 24 years, his town has been abandoned by the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM), as no services or maintenance are provided for the area.

Henry said the area is now being turned into a dumping site by its own residents.

“I have been a resident here for 34 years and over the years I have seen Kocksoord being neglected more and more by the municipality,” Henry said .

He said potholes, broken streetlamps, illegal dumping sites, and other deteriorating facilities such as parks that have not been maintained have become a common sight.

Henry said although residents have been complaining about these problems to the municipality for far too long now, nothing has been done.

“It is as if no-one cares. When you look at other parts of this of this town you see grass growing over tarred roads.”

Henry said all municipality workers do is get dropped at the sites, where they sit under the trees all day, doing nothing, only to be picked up later in the afternoon to go home.

“Some of the roads have been filled with soil and sand which quite pointless because it washes away when the rains come.

“As residents, we are tired of this mess. Something has to be done, as we cannot live like this!” Henry exclaimed.
