Burglar jailed for five years

Young man to spend five years in prison for being linked to a business burglary in September.

Tshepo Isaac Molefe, 29, of Simunye near Westonaria will spend five years in prison for being linked to a business burglary that occurred two months ago.

According to Warrant Officer Raymond Sebonyane, Westonaria Police spokesperson, Molefe was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment for business burglary of which three years are suspended. The sentence was passed in the Westonaria Regional Court on Tuesday, 13 November.

“It is alleged that on 2 September this year, security company Mapogo A Mathamaga got information that two men had jumped into one of the shops on Briggs Street, Westonaria.

“It is further alleged that the two men were carrying a welding machine. The security officer followed the lead and next to Van der Bijl Street in Westonaria, he saw them. One suspect managed to run away while the other one was apprehended and handed over to the police. He was then detained for being in possession of suspected stolen property.

“On Monday, 3 September, the owner of the factory shop found that the door lock had been broken, and a welding machine, computer, Ryobi grinder, extension cord, generator electric cable, copper pipes and batteries were stolen. He opened a case docket of business burglary at the Westonaria Police and through intensive investigation by detective Sergeant Obed Ntlama, the two cases of being in possession of suspected stolen property and business burglary were linked.”

Lieutenant Colonel Hazel Makhafola, acting Westonaria Police station commander, commend the security officer for a job well done and working hand-in-hand with the police.
