Man carjacked by someone known to him

A man in his 30s ran for his life and had to give up his vehicle to a carjacker whom he knew.

A 36-year-old man had to give up his vehicle to someone known to him in what local police confirmed to be a carjacking in Mohlakeng earlier this week.

According to Constable Carmen Hendricks, Randfontein Police spokesperson, “The victim alleges that he was at his house when three men came to him, one of them known to him. The suspect requested the victim to go with him to his (the victim’s) vehicle – a gold Volkswagen Golf 2 with registration number FFY 104 GP. The victim then went inside the house to fetch his vehicle’s keys but when he got outside the carjacker grabbed the keys and got inside the vehicle.

“The victim also jumped into the vehicle and the carjacker then drove off with him (the victim) in the vehicle. In Toekomsrus, the victim decided to grab the keys from the ignition. The carjacker then pulled out a knife and threatened to kill the victim. The victim managed to run away without sustaining any injuries. No firearms were used during the crime.”

Hendricks added that a police officer of the Trio Task Team followed up on information given and they managed to locate the whereabouts of the suspect. The suspect was arrested after investigations were conducted.

Brigadier Jacob Manamela, Randfontein Police station commander, applauded the members on work well done.

“Together we can make it a better and safer place for all.”
