Baby sanctuary in dire straits

Just in Time, a baby sanctuary in Greenhills has a major financial mountain to climb if they want to keep their doors open.

If the Just in Time Baby Sanctuary’s financial situation doesn’t change quickly, they could be forced to close their doors for good.

Just In Time Baby Sanctuary is a registered non-profit organisation that looks after abandoned, abused and neglected babies. Georgina Caetano, the founder, is desperately trying to raise funds to cover monthly expenses and to come up with R1,5 million to keep their house.

“We currently have six babies and if we can’t even buy basic necessities like nappies, food, and electricity, the sanctuary could be at the end of the road,” said Georgina.

This charity relies solely on the goodwill of businesses and the public for financial support.

“We are really struggling to pay the monthly expenses. Closing the sanctuary will mean that six children who are currently being loved, cherished and cared for, will end up in the system, growing up in an orphanage. This was not the dream I had. I started this journey two and a half years ago to raise children who need a home, not to look after them for two years and then send them back,” she said.

They also attempt to have their own fundraising events at least every two months.

“We did a fundraiser at the Barnyard Theatre on 24 October, but it wasn’t as successful as previous years. We also had a raffle and auctioned a painting and expensive wine. These funds just about pay for our monthly expenses. We want to save money to buy this house when it goes on the market in January, but we have too many monthly expenses.”

Their only hope is for an individual, an organisation or a corporate business to reach out and sponsor rent or buy the house.
