Goldfields has built an ablution facility for the Modderfontein Primary School which was officially opened on Friday, 26 October.

The facility contains five toilets and three basins for the girls, and three toilets, four urinals and three basins for the boys. Relebohile Mlipha, Community Development Manager of Goldfields: “The most important thing for us is to look at our host communities, and ensure that we are part of the community.

“This is about understanding what the communities’ needs and concerns are, so that we can respond to those needs within our abilities”.

Relebohile said efforts will continuously be made to join hands with other stakeholders, making sure all the needs of the community are met.

Relebohile also said the facility will help on days where sporting events are hosted at the school.

Puseletso Matete and Marius van Rooyen officially open the school’s new ablution facility.

“By providing the facility, we are allowing the idea that even on such occasions, when the school is not open, the community will be able to use the facility, have their matches and practices, without anyone being inconvenienced,” Relebohile said.

Marius van Rooyen, principal of the school, said the initiative by Goldfields is a big gift to the school.

“Our children had to walk a long way to get to the toilets, but the new ones are so much closer to the playgrounds. We thank Goldfields for continuously showing their support to the school,” Marius said.

Puseletso Matete, Head of Sustainable Development and Environment at Goldfields, said: “We cannot be the only ones who have the dignity of using proper facilities while there are people who have no access to them. By doing this, we have made sure that we co-exist at the same level.”
