Saturday, 27 and Sunday, 28 October is known as Halloween weekend and below are places to go and people to trick and treat!

• 27 October: The Haunted Forest in Midrand

According to joburg.co.za, “For one day only, a 3km woodland walkway will scare the wits out of brave visitors with plenty of live thrilling treats and surprises, like creepy eyeballs and skeletons in unexpected places”. Please note that one of the events is “family friendly” while the other is for adults only.

• 27 October: A Tick or Treat walk/ run in Olifantsfontein

A Halloween event for both man and animal brought to you by AdventureTails and Bravecto. Those wishing to join are asked to dress up in their killer Halloween costumes and oh, don’t forget to dress up your four-legged friend as well.

• 27 and 28 October: The Forbidden Forest at Northgate Shopping Centre

With entry being free, attendees can look forward to this event for both young and old, described as “exciting and creepy”. Visit their Facebook page for more information.

• 28 October: Monster Funhouse at Greenstone Shopping Centre

Meet scary characters such as Doctor Frankenstein, Dracula’s Bride, Zombie Monsters and Warden the Werewolf and hunt for treats on the day.

Another event to attend is the Festival de Mexico Halloween at Montecasino on Saturday, 3 November.

• 27 October: Groot makietie vir die verlore generasie in Robinson

Die Verlore Generasie Fees van 8vm tot 6nm dien as ‘n fondsinsameling vir organisasies wat na wegooi- en weeskinders omsien. Die fees word by Betesda Bedieninge in Robinson gehou. Daar gaan boeresport, go-karts, springkastele asook kosstalletjies wees. Al die fondse wat ingesamel word is ten bate van Drying Tears Charity Foundation, Door of Care and Safety, en Lochvaal. Die inisiatief het ontstaan met Drying Tears Charity Foundation wat bewusmaking skep en besighede en individue betrek om ondersteuning te bied en fondse beskikbaar te stel om die kinders van die verlore generasie te help. ‘Verlore generasie’ verwys na kinders en babas wat geen heenkome het nie en as weggooi- en weeskinders moet voortbestaan as gevolg van omstandighede buite hul beheer. • 27 October: You’re GLOW-ing To Love It Night Race and Picnic in Roodepoort

Why not join in on this after-dark adrenaline-pumping adventure and take part in a night run through the stunning Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden in Poortview, Roodepoort? It’ll be fun for all and it’s only a few kilometres, so anyone can do it! There will be good music and you’ll get to enjoy a picnic too. Visit their Facebook page for more information.

• 27 October: It’s Time mass prayer rally in Pretoria – five million people expected

Organisers of the It’s Time mass prayer meeting to be held at the Rhino Park Airfield just outside Pretoria East are preparing for a crowd of five million. “Never in South Africa’s history has there been a greater need for people to unite,” said the gathering’s visionary, Angus Buchan. Peace is fragile; the economy and business confidence are down, adversely affecting job opportunities; the poor are becoming poorer; uncertainty and unrealistic demands are emerging; racism is more prevalent and South Africans are punch drunk as a result of fraud and corruption. • 27 October: Youth wig project coming to Mohlakeng

• 27 and 28 October: Take on the World’s Strongest man in Randburg

• 27 October: Benefit concert in Muldersdrift

The Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund has partnered with the Nirox Foundation in Kromdraai, Muldersdrift to host a benefit concert at the Nirox Sculpture Park. Experience a full day of music, food, art and nature on display in the Cradle of Humankind – a World Heritage Site. The line-up of artists will be rehearsing and collaborating with Ladysmith Black Mambazo. The day will begin with Mosoeu Ketlele’s Skorokoro Ensemble – their infectious rhythms and beats creating the percussive layer for the day. Mosoeu then becomes singer and storyteller as he recites nursery rhymes in several languages for the children. A delicious selection of beverages and cuisine will be available for sale on the day. • 28 October: Festa Portuguesa in Randfontein

Prepare yourselves for the Festa Portugesa Randfontein to be held at the St Anthony Catholic Church, 118 Main Reef Road. This Portuguese festival is held annually and residents of Randfontein and other parts of the West Rand can expect loads of fun and entertainment for the whole family. The event starts at 11am. Entrance is R20 and for children under five years old it is free.

• 28 Oktober: Gapi by Woord en Lig en ATKV Comenzo Tak se Gospelfees in Randfontein

Woord en Lig bied saam met die ATKV Comenzo Tak ‘n Gospelfees om 3nm by die AGS Middelvlei aan. Dié venue word gebruik omdat dit 700 mense kan huisves. Gapi is die hoofkunstenaar. Die Lion of Juda Band asook twee kore van Laerskool Rapportryer gaan optree. Die Seniorkoor bestaan uit 120 kinders en die Juniorkoor uit 60 kinders. The talented trio, Encore, will release their new album entitled Segarona at Silverstar. The trio – which consists of Keabetwe Kototsi, Kabelo Thomane and Peter Letsaolo – are re-inventing soulful African ballads with their perfectly synced harmonies coupled with impeccable lyrics. • 30 October: Mental health, substance abuse awareness day in Randfontein

The Life Esidimeni Randfontein Centre will be hosting a Mental Health and Substance Abuse Awareness Day on Tuesday, 30 October. On World Mental Health Day, which was on 10 October, all the focus was on the mental well-being of loved ones. World Mental Health Day was first celebrated in 1992 as an initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health, a global mental health organisation with members and contacts in more than 150 countries. The Life Esidimeni Randfontein Centre is situated on 28 Maugham Road, Old South Compound, Randfontein Estate Gold Mine.
