Herald project: Come on R’fontein, let’s finish it!

As the Herald's Handbags of Love Project draws to a close, we are still in need of assistance to fill all 37 already donated handbags with enough basic necessities.

The Herald’s Handbags of Love Project is drawing to a close but needs the community’s help once more to fill the already donated 37 handbags with enough basic necessities.

According to Herald editor, Clinton Botha, “The project will be drawing to a close soon and although we recently received some basic necessities from kind members of the community we still don’t have quite enough to fill all the handbags equally”.

The project still needs a number of items, which include:– more sanitary products

– body sprays

– make-up

– hair brushes

– pen and pencil sets

– packs of tissues

– lip balm

– hand lotion

– mints or gum

– snacks

– face cloths

– body lotion

– deodorant

He added, “As mentioned recently, we have moved onto Phase 2 of the project – filling the handbags. Phase 1 focused on collecting 37 handbags (second-hand and preferably in a good condition) but thanks to our loyal community’s support for the project, our expectations were exceeded.

The Herald’s plan for abused women

“The Indigo Helping Hand Foundation in Middelvlei donated 33 handbags, and we are extremely grateful for everyone’s contribution. Thanks to Spar Greenhills’ kind donation we could start Phase 2 with a bang and tick toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap and notebooks off the list. We thank the owners and staff – the donated items will be much appreciated.”

Those who still wish to contribute can make up a hamper of their choice – nothing too extravagant or expensive – or donate items from the list above. Simply put the donations in a plastic bag and drop it off at our office at 113 Kenneth Avenue, Greenhills, or give us a call on 011 693 3671 and we will arrange to have it collected.
