Police bust criminal cruising in hijacked truck

Truck hijacker recently caught red-handed after being stopped by vigilant members of the traffic police at the intersection of the R559 and R28.

A truck hijacker was recently caught red-handed by vigilant members of the Traffic Department.

According to Constable Carmen Hendricks, Randfontein Police spokesperson, shortly after 10am on Wednesday, 17 October, members of the Traffic Department were passing on the R599 when they were stopped by pedestrians who informed them of a hijacking that had taken place.

“The members took the details of the truck and traced it to the R559. They stopped it truck at the intersection of the R559 and the R28. The suspect was arrested for being in possession of a suspected hijacked truck,” she said.

He will be charged and is expected to appear before the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court soon.

Brigadier Jacob Manamela, the Randfontein Police station commander, expressed his gratitude towards the members for ensuring that the perpetrator was brought to book. He also thanked the members of the community who gave the information to the members of the Traffic Department.

“Together we can fight crime,” he concluded.
