Polluted W’aria suburbs and streets cleaned up – finally

AfriForum’s #YourTown campaign paid off as polluted streets and suburbs were cleaned.

With polluted suburbs and streets being cleaned up as of Monday, 22 October, it seems AfriForum’s #YourTown campaign and continuous pressure on the local municipality has finally paid off.

According to Esther Swart, chairperson of the Westonaria AfriForum branch, “We eventually achieved success on Monday, 22 October because of continuous pressure on the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM). It made various types of equipment available to its employees to clean up polluted suburbs and streets.

“It was a drawn-out process; the municipality took almost two years to react to our branch’s requests. After numerous telephone calls, complaints and weekly visits to the RWCLM about poor service delivery in Westonaria, continuous pressure was definitely the answer,” Esther said.
