Truck hijacked by fake cops on R559

Truck hijacked on the R559 in Mohlakeng when three men posed as police officers.

Three men masquerading as police officers hijacked a truck on the R559 in Mohlakeng in broad daylight.

Constable Carmen Hendricks, Randfontein Police spokesperson said a 53-year-old man and his crew were driving on the R559 at about 9.50am on Wednesday, 10 October when the incident took place.

“A red Volkswagen Polo with an unknown registration number overtook the truck. The driver of the Polo hooted at the truck driver leading him to think that there was something wrong. When the 53-year-old driver stopped, the three men approached him and said they were police officers. They pointed firearms at him and his crew, and forced them into the Polo.

“The assailants then drove with them until they reached Impala Road where they got into a blue Audi A4 with an unknown registration number. The victims’ belongings such as cellphones and cash were also taken from them. Eventually the victims were dropped off at Thula Mutwana in the Vaal where they managed to find help.”

Police are on the lookout for a white Toyota Rhino Truck with registration number HF92KRGP.
