Westcol students hand over memorandum of accommodation demands

The Democratic Alliance Student Organisation (Daso) handed over a memorandum to Westcol management demanding that they make provision for accommodation for students at the campus.

On Tuesday, 16 October, the Democratic Alliance Student Organisation (Daso) handed over a memorandum to Westcol management demanding that they make provision for the accommodation of students at the campus.

Nathan Williams of Daso said a two-day programme will be held at the campus to empower Westcol students about their rights.

Daso has handed over a petition about the provision of student accommodation to Westcol management.

“Issues that we are addressing include safety, crime and the conditions which students are exposed to,” Nathan said.

He added that the most prevalent issue at Westcol is the lack of accommodation and said this problem may contribute to the students feeling unsafe when they travel to and from the campus.

Nathan said the petition advocates the rights of all students and is not about affiliation to any political party.

“We are challenging the management of the college without any strikes or protests. Instead, we are sitting down and negotiating,” Nathan added.
