N12 shooting: Attempted murder suspect sought by cops

Police ID suspect wanted in attempted murder case on the N12 near Waterpan.

Bekkersdal Police are looking for two suspects, one of whom has been identified by local detectives in connection with an attempted murder.

According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, a 26-year-old man was shot and robbed at about 2.13pm on the N12 near the Waterpan entrance one Friday in September.

“It is alleged the victim was walking along the N12 road going to Waterpan when he was accosted by two men. They allegedly dragged him to the trees, demanding money while pointing a firearm at him.

“One fired a shot at the victim, wounding him in the stomach. The victim then gave them R2 500 in cash and his Hisense cellphone before they fled on foot. The victim was able to walk back to the main road and was assisted by a motorist who took him to the Westonaria Clinic for medical attention.”

The matter was later reported to the police and an investigation into this matter is continuing.

The victim was able to compile an ID kit of one of the suspects. Lefakane said the suspect is believed to be between 20 and 25 years old, of slender build and short. He is light in complexion and was wearing a brown leather jacket, brown shorts and black All Star shoes. He wore a gold earring and a beanie with a silver V marking.
