Mrs Africa finalist hosts high tea with a twist

This high tea with comedy acts and fun competitions was definitely one to remember.

According to Rienette Herbst, a Mrs Africa 2019 finalist, hosting a charity high tea is part of the pageant journey but she wanted to do something different.

“I got so used to the fact that charity high teas are usually sad events because of all the heartbreaking stories. I decided to create awareness while entertaining guests. I wanted to spread the word about certain charities but I wanted everyone to go home with a smile on their faces, so the theme was a Great Gatsby High Tea With a Twist,” she said.

Nadia Zara, a performer, started off the event with songs from the 1920s followed by an opening by Giselle Rautenbach. When everyone was comfortable and excited, Reinette told her own story and spoke about her own charity as well as “Designed for Greatness, Designed for HIS purpose”, a charity that she feels very passionate about.

“The event was perfect because we were able to start it in God’s name, we could laugh and cry together and we ended it in God’s name again,” Reinette said.

Janet Potgieter, Mrs Africa 2014 and executive director at Africa Pageants, shared her passions and information about the Africa Pageants’ charities during the event. Reinette’s personal favourite charities are Just in Time Baby Sanctuary, Tulbach House, Rainbow Daycare Centre, The Nzuri Project, Dignity Dreams and Deskbags.

The highlight of the evening was when Liane Heyl (Boeboe from Vetkoekpaleis) took to the stage.

“Boeboe’s comedy act was the twist. My heart melted when she surprised us all by reading a letter addressed to me from my dear husband. Other fun activities for the event included competitions for best dressed and best table décor.”

This high tea was definitely one to remember.
