A 65-year-old man lived to tell of his hijacking and kidnapping ordeal in Finsbury last week.

He was first hijacked, pointed at with a firearm, ordered to get into another vehicle and then driven around for at least two hours before he was dropped off in Soweto.

Constable Carmen Hendricks, Randfontein Police spokesperson confirmed that the incident took place on the old Bank Road next to Lafarge on the R559 in Finsbury.

She said, “The victim alleged he was travelling along the R559 and when he reached the stop sign, an unknown man forcefully opened his bakkie and pointed a firearm at him. Three assailants took the victim to another vehicle and drove around with him for two hours before eventually dropping him off in Impala Road in Soweto where he got help.”

Hendricks added that the hijacked vehicle was later recovered in Lenasia by a tracking company.

“The victim was not injured and no shots were fired during the incident; however, we urge motorists to be vigilant when approaching stop signs and traffic lights, especially when people are standing near the intersection,” Hendricks said.
