Scores of demonstrators marched in the Randfontein CBD against gender-based violence earlier on Friday.

Hundreds of residents took to the streets of the Randfontein CBD early on Friday, 12 October, to march against gender-based violence.

The march was organised by Women Against Women and Child Abuse (Wawa).

Marchers against gender-based violence on the R28, heading to the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court to hand over a memorandum.

According to Enrique Bhana of Wawa, “We did this under the #Arebueng (Let’s talk) banner, which meant that we wanted people to come to speak out against against this issue.”

Bhana added that a memorandum was also handed over to both the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court and the Police, in the hope that more will be done to protect women and children.

Marchers said enough is enough, gender-based violence must come to an end.

“We want all gender-based violence cases to be handled more strictly and more effectively,” Bhana said.
