Armed robbers target supermarket

Five men, many of them armed, targeted a Randfontein supermarket two days ago and fled with an undisclosed amount of money from the till, cellphones and more.

A supermarket in Randfontein was targeted by five men, many of them armed, on Tuesday, 9 October.

Constable Carmen Hendricks, Randfontein Police spokesperson, confirmed that a case of business robbery is being investigated and that the incident took place at about 12.30pm.

“It has been alleged by a 33-year-old victim that an unknown man entered the shop to inquire about prices. At the same time, four other men entered the shop and produced firearms, and ordered the victims to lie down,” Hendricks said.

She added that the suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of money from the till, cellphones and one of the victims’ wallet.

“The suspects fled scene in a white Mercedes Benz with an unknown registration number. No injuries were sustained and no shots were fired,” Hendricks said.
