Randfontein Primary learner wins R30k

Granotia has beaten five other contestants from various in Gauteng who entered the competition.

Granotia Ramaremela is not the only luckiest learner at the Randfontein Primary School for winning R30 000, she also represented Randfontein well and with pride, beating 35 other Gauteng schools to it.

The money she won was first prize for entering the San Pedro Singing Star competition. The finals were held at the Greenstone Mall in Modderfontein.

After winning the hearts of the crowd by singing Lira’s ‘Something Inside So Strong’, Granotia said she could not contain her joy when she was announced as the overall winner of the competition.

In addition, she walked away with a R200 Spur voucher and will be recording two songs under a professional record label.

Speaking to the Herald about her big win, Granotia, who is still excited, said:

“I could not believe it when it was announced. During the announcements they started by mentioning the 3rd and 2nd prize winners first, and when I did not hear my name, I thought it was over for me.

“There are no words to describe how I felt, as I want to pursue a career in singing. This big win is a dream come true,” she said.

She said the competition was a very big challenge for her. “I trusted in the Lord, and believed in myself that I could do it.”

Tshegofatso Digoamaje, a music teacher at Randfontein Primary School, said mentoring Granotia was quite easy as she believes that she is a natural born singer.

“Out of the five learners that I chose for the competition to represent our school, Granotia was the one who did the best. And I would definitely recommend that she consider singing as career,” Tshegofatso said.
