A tribute to Mama Fasie

A special event was held recently to honour a former councillor who is said to have made a big difference in the lives of many in Mohlakeng.

Pascalina Kgoleng, better known as Mama Fasie, a former councillor as well as MMC for Social Services at the West Rand District Municipality (WRDM) was recently honoured for what she has done in Ward 15, Mohlakeng Extension 4.

The event was held at Manzi’ Chapel in Mohlakeng with the aim to thank her for her leadership and contribution towards society.

Morwesi Sole, the MC and former Ward 15 councillor told the audience, among them members of the community and women prayer groups of Rainbow and Kopano, that Mama Fasie was the one who helped establish Ward 15. She was passionately involved in community matters during the struggle and said to be one of the first residents in the Ward.

Nozi Mapena-Dlamini, a veteran Ward 15 councillor then explained the significance of honouring Mama Fasie. “Mama Fasie was brutal and non-compromising when it came to giving issues in the community ‘proper attention’. She is a stalwart and a gallant hero. I have come a long way with Mama Fasie and it was through her that I am what I am today in politics. I was also recently elected into the Regional Executive Committee, thanks to her inspiration.”

It was also said that through Mama Fasie’s efforts, the lives of many people were improved in Extension 4 as she had fought for the provision of electricity, proper drainage and lighting.

Caroline Setsiba RWCLM Communication Officer was one of those who paid tribute to Mama Fasie.

Sylvia Thebenare, a former Randfontein Executive Mayor added it was through Mama Fasie that a relationship was established between Women Prayer Groups, the ANC Women’s League and the municipality.

“She taught us to be humble and respectful towards all people, despite your background.”

In response to what was said, an emotional Mama Fasie thanked everybody for their kind support.
