Man stabbed and killed by ex-girlfriend

Young woman arrested during the long weekend after she stabbed her ex-boyfriend with a broken bottle at a bar in Randfontein.

A 26-year-old woman was arrested on Sunday, 23 September after she stabbed her ex-boyfriend with a broken bottle in the upper body at a tavern in Mohlakeng.

Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson confirmed that the incident took place at about 1.30am and that the parties were both customers of Panase Tavern situated in Selope Thema Street, Mohlakeng, when an argument started.

“The fight suddenly turned physical and became violent. The woman took a broken bottle and stabbed the man in the upper body. An ambulance was summoned but the man was certified dead on the way to hospital.”

Ernst added the woman then handed herself over to the Randfontein Police and is currently in custody. She is expected to appear in court soon.

“Violence is not the way to resolve any dispute,” said Brigadier Jacob Manamela, Randfontein Police station commander.
