Man awoken by scream, finds relative in pool of blood

A 28-year-old man had to be rushed to hospital after being shot in Silver City during the long weekend.

Bekkersdal Police are investigating a case of attempted murder after a 28-year-old man was found shot and lying in a pool of blood by his relative on Sunday, 23 September.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, said the incident happened at about 4.45am.

“According to the witness, he was asleep when he heard someone shouting for help. He further alleges the shout was followed by two gunshots. He then waited until it was quiet to go and investigate. He was then surprised to find his relative lying in a pool of blood next to his yard, having sustained several gunshot wounds. He called for help and they took the victim to the Bekkersdal Clinic where he was transported to a hospital.”

The suspect is still at large and the motive for the attack is unknown. Anyone who might have information that could assist the police in solving the case can contact the Bekkersdal Police on 011 755 0000 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

Lieutenant Colonel Florence Zondi, acting Bekkersdal Police station commander, urges the community to be vigilant and avoid walking alone at night or during the early hours of the morning.

“Please contact the police if you have information and do not be a hero as these suspects are deemed to be armed and dangerous,” she concluded.
