Illegal firearm found in shack

Bekkersdal Police confiscated an illegal firearm and arrested a suspect aged 43 in Silver City recently.

A 43-year old man from Silver City in Bekkersdal was arrested by police for being in possession of an illegal firearm.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, said the arrest is a result of a tip-off given to one of the officers by a community member.

“Upon arrival, a man who matched the description given to the police was found sleeping at the said address. Members identified him and requested permission to search his shack. They then found a silver firearm with a filed-off serial number, and the suspect was immediately arrested,” Lefakane said.
