Indigo Helping Hand Foundation is in desperate need of donations

The Indigo Helping Hand Foundation is a registered non-profit organisation, but they can’t help the underprivileged without help from local businesses and individuals.

“Our goal is to help people who have lost their jobs and don’t have the means to provide for their families any more. People lose their jobs every day and we already have almost 500 people registered with us, but we can’t help them because we don’t get enough food donations,” said Demi van Wyk, the organising administrative clerk.

The charity focuses on helping underprivileged people from Randfontein, the plots and Westonaria. Their goal is to be able to give packets of food to the people in need on a regular basis. However, although they get lots of clothes donations, they are in desperate need of food.

“We are very grateful for all the clothes that we get, but at the moment we have three cans of baked beans and a few packets of carrots – and that’s not enough to feed 500 people. There are a lot of people in Randfontein that have to go to sleep hungry every night,” she said.

“We are asking the people and businesses of Randfontein to open their hearts and help us with food in any way possible. Some people are even asking for leftovers. If people want to donate food but they don’t have time, they can make a financial donation and we will give them proof of what food we buy and where we handed it out.”

According to Anne-Marie Brink, chief executive officer, the Indigo Helping Hand Foundation initiatives included the Indigo Shoebox Christmas Project, a project to lend out matric farewell dresses, and they also hand out clothes every three months.

“The smallest donation can make a difference in one person’s life and at the end of the day, that’s exactly what we want to do,” Anne-Marie said.
