Manhunt for missing driver and vehicle

Police say the driver was on his way to Matatiele with his employer’s Toyota Quantum on 9 September but never returned.

Bekkersdal Police have launched a manhunt for the driver of a Toyota Quantum with registration number DL 02 KZ GP after both were reported missing by the man’s employer.

According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, it was reported that the driver in the employ of the 68-year-old victim was on his way to Matatiele in the Eastern Cape on 9 September.

“He was supposed to return the same day but instead he called, saying that the vehicle had a mechanical problem. The owner contacted his insurance provider so that they could assist the driver, but when they responded the driver was nowhere to be found,” Lefakane said.

“The owner further alleged that he contacted his tracking company and they confirmed that the vehicle was still in Matatiele; however, at a later stage they could not track the vehicle’s location anymore. He decided to report the matter to the police and an investigation is under way,” she added.

Anyone with information regarding the vehicle or the driver can contact the Bekkersdal Police on 011 755 0000 or alternatively contact Crime Stop on 086 001 0111.
