Local attorneys are drafting wills for free this week

This is the fifth time that Van Wyk Oosthuizen is taking part in this annual initiative and in the previous years, they have helped about 60 people during this week.

As part of National Wills Week, Van Wyk Oosthuizen Attorneys will be drafting new wills free of charge from 17 to 21 September.

“We want to help the community. We are participating in Wills Week 2018 to provide a service to that part of the community that cannot afford to have a will drawn up,” Doreen du Toit, a representative of Christo Oosthuizen at Van Wyk Oosthuizen Attorneys said.

“Firstly we want to make attorneys more accessible to the public. We are here for the people who have never worked with attorneys before, or those who are not sure whether they want a will to be drawn up.”

According to Doreen, it is estimated that at their time of death only 23 per cent of the public has left a valid will. If you die without leaving a valid will, your assets will be distributed according to the provisions of the Intestate Succession Act 81 of 1987, and the person of your choice may not be the beneficiary.

“The public should make use of this opportunity to have a will drafted. Even though it’s just a basic will, it is a reassurance that you wishes will be carried out,” she added.
