Truck, vehicle weekend crash leaves one dead

A crash between a truck and vehicle at the N12 and R28 intersection in Westonaria during the weekend left one person dead and another three people seriously injured.

A man died while three others sustained serious injuries when a truck and light motor vehicle collided at the N12 and R28 intersection in Westonaria on Saturday, 15 September.

Werner Vermaak, ER24 spokesperson said at about 4.45am, paramedics from ER24 and local emergency services arrived on the scene where they found the truck lying on its side.

“The severely damaged light motor vehicle was found a few metres away. Upon assessment paramedics found that the driver of the light motor vehicle had sustained fatal injuries and they declared him dead on the scene,” Vermaak said.

He said another two men and a woman were found trapped inside the vehicle, having suffered serious injuries.

“The Westonaria Fire Department had to use rescue equipment to free them from the wreckage. Once freed, they were stabilised and rushed to Randfontein Lenmed Hospital for further medical treatment.

“The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are not yet known. Local authorities attended the scene and will investigate the matter,” Vermaak added.
