Police advise people to avoid keeping large sums of money in their houses after a Randfontein family was robbed of almost R10 000.

Bekkersdal Police have launched a manhunt for three robbers who robbed a family of R9 400.

Police said that during the incident on Wednesday, 8 September at about 7.30pm, the three armed assailants entered a family’s home to demand money.

“Initially they were offered R400, but the robbers demanded more. They were eventually given R9 000, which was hidden in the house. The police were summoned and a case of house robbery was opened,” Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal spokesperson said.

Colonel Tinus Swart, Bekkersdal Police station commander, urged people to avoid keeping large sums of money in their homes.

“This kind of practice is very dangerous and can put your lives and those of your loved ones at risk. Rather use banking facilities for every rand you collect,” Swart added.
