Contaminated water? ‘No truth in voice note’

Randfontein's water contaminated: Municipality warned of fake voice note, said town's water is instead 'world class'

The Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) has dismissed the WhatsApp voice note that has been doing the rounds, claiming that the water in town is contaminated, as mischievous.

Tshidiso Thlaripe, RWCLM spokesperson, confirmed that the municipality is aware of the voice note, and said. “Our drinking water in RWCLM is subject to world class standards of monitoring and compliance, and is 100 per cent compliant and safe for human consumption.

Tlharipe went on to say, “Rand Water analyses our water at its South African National Accredited System (SANAS) accredited laboratory.”

He said further that RWCLM also conducts compliance monitoring at the East Rand Water Care Company’s accredited SANAS laboratory.
