UPDATE – R41 shooting: Two wanted for murder

Police provide details of the death of the man who was shot dead on the R41 between Randfontein and Kagiso yesterday.

The Kagiso Police have confirmed that they are investigating a case of murder after the body of a man who had been shot to death was found on the R41 between Randfontein and Kagiso on Thursday, 6 September.

At least two suspects are wanted in connection with the killing.

The Herald initially reported that the incident occurred in Uitvalfontein. Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, corrected the misinformation, pointing out that the incident occurred within the Kagiso Police’s jurisdiction.

Captain Solomon Sibiya, Kagiso Police spokesperson, confirmed that a man was found shot and killed, but advised that the incident had taken place between Rietvallei Extensions 2 and 3 and Azaadville, next to Kagiso.

“It is alleged that two unknown persons were seen chasing the victim from the direction of Rietvallei towards Azaadville.

The victim suddenly collapsed next to the road in front of a cash-in-transit truck that was driving on the R41 in the direction of Randfontein.

“The two persons who were giving chase crossed the road and fled the scene. Witnesses noticed that the victim did not get up, and decided to call the police. On arrival at the scene, the police conducted preliminary investigations and found the victim had been shot in the upper and lower body.

“We would like to appeal to members of the public with information about the whereabouts of the perpetrators to call the Kagiso Police on 011 696 9059/ 9065/ 9067/ 9105 or alternatively Crime Stop on 08600 10111.”
