Police and CPF in Rand West City win big!

Bekkersdal Police Station received the Best Police Station in Gauteng award. This and more achievements were celebrated at Wednesday's Excellence Awards held for West Rand Police.

Police in Rand West City, and our local Community Policing Forum (CPF), won big at the West Rand Cluster’s Annual Excellence Awards held at Usambara in Krugersdorp on Wednesday, 5 September.

There the cluster celebrated the achievements of individuals as well as groups. The stars of the evening were members of all 13 police stations in the West Rand Cluster as well as the CPF groups.

Major General Fred Kekana, West Rand Cluster commander gave a word of encouragement to all who received awards.

“I believe that every employee in the West Rand Cluster is a go-getter who contributed 100 per cent towards the rendering of professional services to the community we serve. Tonight, however, we celebrate excellence. Tonight’s recognition is but a small token of appreciation for your effort and diligence in making the West Rand a safe and secure environment,” he said.

The two award categories were Individual and Special Category Awards and the Group and Cluster Commander’s Awards.

Rand West City winners include:

• Captain Appel Ernst of Randfontein Police received an award for Admin Employee of the Year Level 8–12. She has trained 12 other communications officers in the West Rand Cluster and edits an average of 52 press releases monthly.

• Constable Portia Mabala of Randfontein received an award for Vispol Employee of the Year Level 5–7. She has conducted 774 crime awareness projects and did 100 safety talks at local schools.

• Randfontein was awarded the Best Rural Safety Patroller Group award, with Fochville as the first runner-up.

• Tiny Padi won Longest-serving CPF Member. She joined the CPF in Mohlakeng in 1995 and has been serving her community selflessly for the past 23 years.

• The West Rand Cluster boasts with three police stations on the list of Top 10 police stations in Gauteng. Carletonville Police Station is eighth on this list and scored 82,02 per cent in terms of the Police Performance Monitoring Tool (Efficiency Index). Hekpoort Police Station ranked seventh on this list with a percentage of 82,64 and Bekkersdal Police Station is number one on the list with a whopping 89,86 per cent.

“Let us reflect on what we have achieved, look forward to new challenges, encourage our colleagues to strive towards excellence and ultimately train our eyes on our ultimate goal, namely serving and protecting our community,” Kekana added.
