Wat skud in die dorp en sy omstreke?

Met die Herald se Wat Skud-gids byderhand hoef jy en jou familie nie meer by die huis te sit en wonder wat in die dorp, of selfs aan die hele Wes-Rand en omstreke aangebied word nie.

• 25 August: Musiekskool reg vir opwindende opedag

Die Sound and Music School in Randfontein gaan op Saterdag, 25 Augustus hul opedag op die hoek van Kennethlaan en Tinus de Jonghstraat hou. Voornemende musiekleerlinge en die publiek word uitgenooi om die dag propvol pret by te woon wanneer die musiekskoolpersoneel hulself aan Randfonteiners voorstel sodat mense meer oor hul dienste te wete kan kom. Die dag skop om 10vm af en dit beloof om baie opwindend te wees. Daar gaan verskeie stalletjies wees wat kos, lekkers, vars heuning, vetkoek en kerrie-en-rys gaan verkoop. Plaaslike kunstenaars soos Luchelle van Niekerk, Drikus du Plessis en Morné van der Westhuizen gaan tydens die opedag optree. Daar gaan ‘n musiekkompetisie gehou word en deelnemers kan groot pryse wen. Vir meer inligting skakel 079 153 3823.

• 25 August: Another rally for near-drowning victim Tristan in Greenhills

The community’s help is once again needed to raise funds for young Tristan Sellwig. Tristan suffered brain trauma during a near-drowning episode on 9 November 2014. Due to Tristan being so young and receiving the correct rehabilitation and treatment, he is on the road to reaching all the milestones of a child his age. Tristan underwent a stem-cell transplant in Mumbai in India, which was performed by Dr Alok Sharma. The Tristan Angel Trust is now left with R32 000 and the community is needed once more to help raise funds for Tristan’s next stem-cell transplant through the Rally 4 Tristan at 10am, at 12 Lourie Street in Greenhills. Sponsors for the following are needed: Rolls, soft drinks, boerewors and beer. Those who cannot assist with the items can make cash donations. • 25 August: The Pinkie Fest in Krugersdorp

The Pinkie Fest is a legendary South African Music Festival that’s been painting Johannesburg pink for nearly two decades. This dynamic event has grown organically into a major heavy-hitting music festival, becoming one of Gauteng’s most anticipated parties of the year. This event is for those 18 years and over. • 25 August: Rocci Rocks Festival in Roodepoort

A first of its kind in South Africa, this Festival is aimed at bringing everyone together for a day of great fun. There will be entertainment for every member of the family – a kiddies’ play area, beer garden, hundreds of stalls and a 5km family fun-run. A percentage of the profits will be donated to the local SPCA to assist them with caring for the animals. The entertainment line-up is huge, featuring Die Heuwels Fantasties, Bok van Blerk, Die Campbells, Juan Boucher, Tanya Vilance, Christian Heath, Prime Circle and more. • 25 August: Art Workshop in Krugersdorp

Come and join in the fun and take home a professional painting (ready to hang) by attending the Art Workshop at Ngwenya Glass Village off the R114 and Beyers Naudé Drive in Muldersdrift. • 25 August: Women in Music Festival

The Rand West City Local Municipality, in partnership with Ms Jones Sounds, will host the Women in Music Festival at the Ace Ntsoeleng Stadium in Mohlakeng on Saturday, 25 August to celebrate Women’s Month. The event starts at 12 noon and continues until late. This charitable event aims to celebrate and salute all women who are making iconic moves in any industry across all walks of life. This music festival will be a first of its kind in terms of an All Star Women in Music Line-Up and Production, from the DJs to performing artists as well as the MCs and the behind-the-scenes crew. Furthermore, proceeds from this event will be used to buy toiletries and sanitary towels for girl learners from disadvantaged families in Rand West City. It’s said the event will be of the highest quality and will include the founder of Ms Jones Sounds, DJ Ms Jones, the municipality and national artists and DJs.
