#ThrowbackThursday – August 1986: Rosemary Kahn Preschool and more …

WATCH: The Herald goes back, way back, to August 1986 for this week’s #ThrowbackThursday for a look at the 72-year-old Rosemary Kahn Preschool.

It’s Throwback Thursday and the Herald went back in time to August 1986 to see what was in the news.

In the 22 August 1986 edition, the Herald reported on the the 40th birthday of the Rosemary Kahn Preschool, one of Randfontein’s oldest preschools.

Some information about the planning of a local festival.

The Herald also spoke to Ilsa Otto, the current owner and principal of Rosemary Kahn Preschool who shared a bit of history about the school.

According to her, a Jewish woman named Rosemary Kahn started the parallel medium school back in 1946 when she realised that there was a need for a preschool in Randfontein. Ilsa started working at the school 32 years ago and by then there was already 46 learners. Today, the school has 110 learners from aged two up to Grade R. Not only does this preschool stimulate the minds of young ones, it also encourages cultural activities.

“The school has grown over the decades,” Ilsa said.
