According to Lefakane, it is alleged the incident happened after the learner had refused to follow an instruction from the teacher.

“The learner allegedly became angry and took his school bag with books in it and hit the victim in her face. The teacher sustained injuries to her face and reported the matter to the police,” Lefakane said.

She added the learner will be charged with assault and is expected to appear in court soon.

Colonel Tinus Swart, Bekkersdal Police station commander condemned the behaviour of the learner and said learners must pay attention to their studies instead of attacking their teachers.

“This kind of attitude must stop immediately,” Swart said.
