Deadly weapons seized by police

Police release photo of weapons they have seized after stop-and-search operation.

Bekkersdal Police have seized an arsenal of knives and other weapons during an eight-hour long stop-and-search operation last week.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson said they conducted a joint operation with the local Community Policing Forum (CPF) to investigate liquor outlets to fight crime in the community.

The operation was held from 2pm to 10pm on Friday, 17 August.

“Warrant Officer Sizakele Ndumiso was targeting liquor outlets as a method of crime prevention around his sector. Okapi knives and other weapons were removed and seized as the officers were driving around, conducting stop-and-search operations,” Lefakane said.

Ndumiso said he will conduct these kinds of disruptions on a weekly basis.

“We want to curb crimes committed with weapons and around liquor outlets,” he said.
