Man, 43, arrested for fake ID

A 43-year-old man is in custody after he was found in possession of a fraudulent identity document (ID) in Westonaria.

A 43-year-old man appeared in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 16 August after he was found in possession of a fraudulent identity document (ID).

The case was, however, postponed and he is still in custody.

Warrant Officer Raymond Sebonyane, the Westonaria Police spokesperson, said the complainant (who is a private investigator) went to ubank Kloof mine and met with the suspect at about 11.30am on Tuesday, 14 August.

“Police were called and the suspect was arrested for using a fraudulent ID. The suspect had failed to surrender that ID to the Department of Home Affairs during the amnesty period.”

Lieutenant Colonel Hazel Makhafola, the acting Westonaria Police station commander commended the stakeholders who worked hand-in-hand with the police. She added that people must follow the right procedure when applying for citizenship.
